Ibrahim Abdullah came to study at Tyumen SU from Yemen, a country located in Asia in the south of the Arabian Peninsula. Now he is completing his full-time postgraduate studies in Physics and Astronomy (profile: Physics and Technology of Nanostructures, Atomic and Molecular Physics), supervised by Dr. Sergey Udovichenko, Doctor of Physics and Mathematics.

The young scientist works in the laboratory of nanomaterials and nanoelectronics at the Center for Natural Engineering of Tyumen SU.The postgraduate student's portfolio includes a victory in the competition "You are the Pride of the University", personal scholarships of the President and the Government of the Russian Federation.

We asked him some questions to find out more about living and studying in Tyumen. At the end of this material we left tips that Ibrahim Abdullah shares with foreign students who choose Tyumen SU.

- You have been named one of the best graduate students of Tyumen State University. What does it mean to you?

It is a high honor and a significant milestone in my academic career, a confirmation that my hard work, efforts and dedication to science have been appreciated and recognized. It is also a great motivation to continue working with even greater zeal, to contribute to the scientific community and to reach new heights. In addition, this recognition reinforces my responsibility to the university, teachers and colleagues, inspiring me to continue my professional development.

- What is your impression of Russia and Tyumen?

Russia amazes with its culture, history and natural diversity. A special depth is felt here, which is manifested in architecture, literature, music and art. People are very hospitable and friendly, which makes the stay in the country comfortable and cozy. Tyumen surprised with the combination of modernity and tradition. It is a city that is developing dynamically, but at the same time retains its identity and special atmosphere: one can feel care for people and attention to details.

- How did your parents feel about your moving to Russia?

With understanding and support. Of course, there were a lot of worries and excitement, because moving to another country is always a big step, associated with a lot of changes and unknowns. However, they trusted my choice and knew that this experience would bring me many new opportunities. We keep in close contact, which helps them feel more at ease knowing that I am doing well. Their support and faith has made my moving much easier.

 - Tell us please about how you came to Tyumen SU?

When I participated in the federal stage of the National Russian competition in Crimea “Student of the Year” (I was one of 17 international students from all over Russia), I learned about one of Tyumen SU's programs aimed at attracting talented foreign citizens to graduate school. At that time, I already had many achievements, which gave me the confidence and motivation to apply to Tyumen SU and continue my studies. The admission process was quite standard, but required serious preparation - I had to score at least 80 points to be successfully admitted. When the confirmation letter arrived, I felt great joy and satisfaction. It was an important step towards my professional goals. I was looking forward to starting a new stage in my life at Tyumen State University.

- What challenges do you face or have you faced at Tyumen SU?

As in any other educational institution, I had to face a number of challenges, which, however, were important lessons and contributed to my growth. One of the first was adapting to a new educational and cultural context. Despite the fact that the university provides excellent facilities for students, it was not easy at first to get used to the new system of education, especially the demands of independent work and research. It took time to master the academic writing style, methods and approaches accepted in the Russian scientific environment. Another difficulty was learning the language. Although I had a basic level of Russian, the academic language with its specialized vocabulary and grammatical nuances proved to be quite difficult. I had to work hard to understand lectures, participate in seminars and write academic papers. It is also important to note that combining studies, research and other responsibilities sometimes led to time management problems. Managing time to keep up with everything while maintaining a balance between study and personal life proved to be a challenge.

- Tell us about your achievements during your studies and work at Tyumen SU?

One of the key achievements was active participation in scientific projects. I did research in my field, published articles and spoke at conferences. I was also actively involved in the life of the university and student community: various events, seminars and trainings. This allowed me to develop leadership, project management and teamwork skills.

- How do you see your development in science?

My journey begins by strengthening my theoretical base and broadening my experimental experience. In the future, I strive to broaden my scientific horizon through interdisciplinary research. This is important because many modern scientific problems require an integrated approach and interaction between different fields. I plan to participate in projects that are at the intersection of several disciplines to develop a deeper understanding of complex phenomena and processes. One of my goals for the future is to obtain grants and funding for research. This will allow me to set up and lead my own research group, which will be an important step in my research career.

I see potential in training and mentoring young scientists, transferring my knowledge and experience to them. In addition, I plan to actively participate in international projects and exchange programs to expand my scientific collaboration and exchange ideas on a global level. This will also open new opportunities to put my research into practice and develop solutions that can have a meaningful impact on society and industry. In the long term, I see myself as a scientist, manager and leading engineer in the energy and electronics industry. I aim to make a meaningful and lasting contribution to science by contributing to the development of new directions in my field.
