Creative Industries Masters Programme to Be Announced at UTMN

On 11 November, at 12pm, the UTMN School of Advanced Studies (2/1, 8 Marta St.) will present its new Creative Industries professional masters programme.

The programme will be presented by:  

• Oksana Bulgakova – Professor of Film Studies at the Gutenberg University in Mainz;  

• Alisa Prudnikova – Director of regional development at ROSIZO State Museum and Exhibition Centre;  

• Andrey Shcherbenok – Director of the UTMN School of Advanced Studies. 

The rapid development of new technologies has led to radical changes in the spheres of journalism, cinema and television - in their format, dramaturgy and broadcasting methods, which now include YouTube, mobile television and web platforms. However, educational institutions have not yet reacted to these dynamic changes in media formats. The SAS masters programme is designed to fill this gap by preparing workers for creative industries.   

The new masters programme is truly innovative, as it trains universal media specialists oriented at creating successful media content, who understand the constantly changing specifics of audio-visual production. The programme will immerse students to the process of media development and train them in reflexion and professional skills, which will give students not only a good foundation in the field, but also the capacity to develop further in their chosen sphere.   

The programme focuses on the creative industries closely connected to media production: 

- video content for multimedia platforms, 

- computer graphic design, 

- cinema and video production, 

- the creation of all types of TV content for traditional and digital platforms, 

- Internet television, 

- media critics, 

- producing. 

The programme will have an interdisciplinary and cross-media approach. The course aims to train creative authors, film directors, editors, producers and other media production specialists not only able to use the latest technology, but also aware of the principles of business logic, law and creative economics. After the course, alumni will have a wide spectrum of career opportunities, including mass media, TV and radio companies, media companies specializing in producing TV series and films, media portals editorial boards, social media, scientific and educational institutions.  

The programme consists of 3 blocks – Fundamentals, Practice and Theory. 

The first block includes such disciplines as Digital Recording and Digital Postproduction, Web Design, Computer Animation, Special Effects, 3D, TV Editing for Live Broadcasting, Production Organization, The Principles of Law in the Media Sphere, Economics of Media and Advertisement, Selfpresentation, Selfmarketing and Pitching.    

The theoretical block includes the History and Theory of Media, Media Analysis, Linear and Nonlinear Dramatic Structure, Sociology and Media Philosophy.  

The professional practical block includes producing content for broadcast, working on multimedia journalism, films, TV shows or content for web platforms. 
Among the teaching methods used will be lectures, seminars, group projects and workshops with renowned media producers, journalists, film directors and authors.
