Japan Ambassador to the Russian Federation Visits UTMN

International 13 October 2017
The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Russian Federation, Toyohisa Kozuki, has paid an official visit to the University of Tyumen.

The visit is especially timely as a Mitsubishi Electric Centre for Industrial Automation has recently been established at UTMN as part of a cooperation agreement between Mitsubishi Electric (Russia) LLC, Tyumen Pribor LLC and the University of Tyumen. The Ambassador noted that Mitsubishi Electric is being promoted heavily in Tyumen region at present, especially in its oil producing areas.

Moreover, the UTMN leadership has plans to teach Japanese language and culture at the Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities.

“I think we should promote Oriental Studies at UTMN, maybe even establish a special department. We also need to start teaching Japanese here,” said Director of the Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities, Igor Chubarov

Currently, UTMN is planning a visit to the International Conference on trust issues at Chuo University, Tokyo, which plans to attract specialists from more than 30 countries. Head of the UTMN Department of World Economics and International Business, Lyudmila Simonova, will present her research at the conference.

The Ambassador added that the Japanese side is also interested in developing cooperation with Russian universities. In future, academic exchange in the spheres of Biology, Chemistry, Physics and IT will be intensified.

The University of Tyumen has been cooperating with Japanese institutions since 2008. Currently, UTMN is in partnership with Kindai University (former Kinki University) and the Research Institute of Russia and Eurasia in Tokyo. A cooperation agreement with Chuo University (Tokyo) is currently being negotiated. The Ambassador concluded the meeting by announcing that 2018 will become the year of cooperation between Russia and Japan, which will open new prospects.

The Ambassador thanked UTMN representatives for the meeting and promised to give a lecture for UTMN students in the near future.
