Professor Janusz Uchmański gives lectures at UTMN

International 11 December 2018
Janusz Uchmański, Professor of Biology and Bioethics at the Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw, came to Tyumen to establish linkages with UTMN. Thirteen years ago Uchmański successfully cooperated with Russia through the Academy of Sciences when he came here to attend a scientific conference.

Most of all, Uchmański is interested in the new X-BIO Institute and opportunities this research unit can offer. The professor visited all the laboratories and welcomed the prospect of joint work.

Janusz Uchmański is now working on ecological modelling. For example, he studies insect population outbreaks that cause tremendous damage to forests. The scientist plans to initiate a collaborative project with the University of Tyumen. It may be related to the soil ecology.

“UTMN has laboratories, we have experience. The problem is challenging but interesting. I believe that our employees can contribute to the projects of our Russian colleagues and vice versa,” said Janusz Uchmański.

During one week, the ecologist gave five lectures for master's students of the program “Plant Biosecurity”. In the future, such visits can become a regular practice.
