According to the 2016 “Green Patrol” ratings on the Russian subjects, a Russian public organization, Tyumen Oblast is one of the top ten regions with the most favorable ecological conditions (ranked 9 out of 83). In the eight years since the publication of the rating data, the region rose by 52 points.

Moreover, according to the results of a large study concerning local residents’ relations with the environmental situation in Russian cities, conducted in 2016 by the Domofond.ru portal, Tyumen came in 22nd place out of the 100 largest population points. Citizens taking part in the survey were asked to rank on a scale of ten a series of statements (“in my region there are enough greenery and enough fresh, clean air”). These results showed that the city of Tyumen received an average rating of seven out of ten, according to the Department of Subsoil Use and Ecology of the Tyumen Region.

Of note is the fact that the Institute of Ecology and Rational Use of Natural Resources, the Institute of Biology, and the Institute of Earth Sciences all actively engage in ongoing ecological research within this field.
