The University of Tyumen (UT) has launched the Geoportal, a thematic web-portal created to provide access to maps of the Tyumen region, developed by teachers and students.
“The fundamental goal of the Geoportal is to publish scientific information that the UT has accumulated over many years of research,” notes Dr. Ildar Idorisov, head of the Department of Cartography and Geo-informatics Systems at the Institute of Earth Sciences. “We want to provide opportunities to search and exchange data, and visualize special data through a thematically interactive map.”
The geoportal architecture is designed on the basis of free open-source software, distributed by the GPL license (GNU General Public License), consistent with the recommendations of the Open Geospatial Consortium.
Soon the Geoportal will work in a testing trial. You can find information about on the website of the Institute of Earth Sciences on the left menu marked “Об Институте” (about the institute): https://www.utmn.ru/inzem/about/.
The University of Tyumen is inviting all interested researchers to cooperate in the project.
