Research and Innovations 22 February 2018
Associate Professor from the UTMN Department of Administrative and Entrepreneurial Law, Elena Gladun, has beaten other contenders in a prestigious international competition to secure a place in the Fulbright Arctic Initiative.

The Fulbright Program is one of the largest international academic exchange programs in Russia, financed by USA government. The program covers 160 countries and aims to improve cooperation between USA and other countries, including Russia.

The Arctic Initiative is to provide researchers from Arctic countries with a platform for joint study, analysis and solution of the most pressing Arctic issues and for developing interdisciplinary solutions for the Arctic region’s sustainable development. 12 outstanding researchers from the USA and other countries of the Arctic Council were chosen to participate in the program, which starts in spring 2018 and ends in autumn 2019

As part of the program, Elena Gladun presented her project Scenario Development to Explore the Future of Indigenous Peoples in the Arctic. “Only by joining forces will researchers from all Arctic countries be able to come to an overall agreement on the fate of the Arctic’s indigenous peoples,” said Elena Gladun.

The researcher's task will be to develop protection measures for the indigenous people of the Arctic in accordance with various scenarios of Arctic development.

The program includes conducting research in a USA university, group research as part of interdisciplinary and international research teams, and collaborating with leading scholars from the countries of the Arctic.
