Medieval Studies head to the east

Aleksandr Emanov, organizer of the conference and head of the Department of Archaeology, Ancient World, and Medieval Studies, stated that this year the conference program included not only medieval Europe, but also the medieval East.

The Institute of History and Political Sciences of TSU organized an annual international academic and practical conference entitled “Medieval Studies: New names”.

Aleksandr Emanov, organizer of the conference and head of the Department of Archaeology, Ancient World, and Medieval Studies, stated that this year the conference program included not only medieval Europe, but also the medieval East.

The conference was designed to train permanent staff members and students, all of which gathered to present the results of their recent research and meet new delegates colleagues, young and old. TSU students each year demonstrate their depth of understanding and share the results of interesting research along with possible approaches to various problems.

This year’s event brought together students from not only other universities, but other countries as well. For example, Karagez Selim, a Turkish student who studies at Kazan Federal University on exchange, presented (in English) the results of his research on Turkish Byzantinology. His report proved very useful and interesting to the audience.

Michael Demintsev, the Associate Professor of the Department of Archaeology, Ancient World and Medieval Studies, commented on the academic quality of the conference:

“I can confidently say that our students are remarkably improving in both professionalism and quality of research. New research is conducted and original formulations are presented, and the students are demonstrating a broad knowledge of sources and a deeper understanding of the subject.”
