University of Tyumen foreign students mounted the Urals
In the framework of the project, titled "A foreign student discovers the Urals," Tyumen State University students from India, France, Egypt and Germany went on a tour to the Taganay national park. They were accompanied by student members of the university tourist club, headed by Olga Nissenbaum, a senior lecturer of UT’s Information Security Department.
Right from the beginning, this tour seemed to have a pronounced Russian flavour to it, given that the tourists traveled to Zlatoust by train in a second-class sleeping carriage. For the foreigners, going by such a train turned out to be a first-time experience. In Zlatoust, the group was met with snowfall and bright sunrise over the mountains. On the first day into the tour, the group walked a distance of six kilometers through the beautiful forest, having then climbed on the southern top of the Dvuhglavaya Sopka mountain (1034 m).
The team then spent the evening in a small house, heated with a stove, playing a game, called "What do I know about your country," and singing to a guitar.
On the second day of the trip, the group visited the Otkliknoy ridge, the Valley of Tales, and climbed Kruglitsa – the highest mountain of Taganay (1178 m). The guys courageously withstood the test of the wind and snow and were rewarded with making it to the top.
"Because of the clouds, we could not see anything while sitting on the mountain top, but the feeling of victory more than compensated for all of the physical inconvenience we experienced" – commented the students.
On the third day, the students marched through the Nizhniaya Trail, visited the Bolshaya Kamennaya River – the largest in the northern hemisphere – and could admire the side view of the mountains they passed through earlier. The highly instructive day ended with a visit to the Taganay museum, which holds stuffed animals and birds, their feathers, wool, jacks, as well as geological samples and photos. The foreign students, whose studies at Tyumen have just began, received a huge energy kick, having lived through an unforgettable experience and gotten plenty of positive emotions. They all expressed a strong wish to participate in future tours to be organized by TSU tourist club.
