Mathematical Biology and Bioinformatics Master’s program has been launched
A new Master’s program has been launched by the UTMN Institute of Environmental and Agricultural Biology (X-BIO).
A new Master’s program, Mathematical Biology and Bioinformatics, has been launched by the UTMN Institute of Environmental and Agricultural Biology (X-BIO). This is a joint effort by the University of Tyumen and the Orekhovich Research Institute of Biomedical Chemistry (Moscow).
The new MSc program is co-led by Dr. Ekaterina Poverennaya - a laureate of the Government of Russia's 2018 Award for Young Scientists for developing peptide library for mass-spectrometry of proteins within human proteome, and Dr. Pavel Klimov - an expert on molecular phylogeny of arthropods, with the joint UTMN and the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor) affiliation.
This is the second MSc program that has been initiated at the X-BIO Institute since the launch of the Plant Biosecurity program in 2018. Both majors align with X-BIO’s main research vector – biosecurity. The demand for qualified specialists in these fields is quite high. It is expected that the new Master’s program will attract prospective students with a background in Mathematics, IT, Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Geosciences. Subsequently, single-track MSc-PhD programs will be initiated. Additionally, X-BIO plans to open new research laboratories for Mathematical Ecology and Genetic Technologies before the end of 2019.
