UTMN specialists assessed the content of heavy metals in urban soils of Tyumen and features of their spatial spreading. Urbanization processes are usually associated with improving the quality of life and the creating of a comfortable urban environment, but this very phenomenon has some drawbacks.

Researchers have determined that the contamination status of the Tyumen soil horizons with heavy metals varies from low to high. The average content of chromium, zinc, nickel, lead and vanadium in urban soils corresponds to a low rate of contamination.
Some soil samples are moderately polluted with copper, cobalt and to a lesser extent with chromium. Urban soils are seriously polluted with vanadium, zinc and nickel. It was recorded in 1, 4.9 and 5.9 percent of samples, respectively.
The researchers sum up that despite a number of features associated with both the characteristics of mother rocks and anthropogenic impact, the overall soil contamination situation in Tyumen is favorable.
