Landscape architect, LLC "Relief" (Tyumen)

While enrolling in the Institute of Biology, particularly the Landscape Architecture program, many people contemplate how to start their career in this field, what to do and where to work. I will share my memories of my university years and of searching for my place in landscape architecture after graduation.

In 2009 I enrolled in the Biological Faculty of Tyumen State University (now the Institute of Biology of UTMN) in the Landscape Architecture program. I chose this path because I preferred natural sciences at school, especially biology and geography. My love for these subjects helped me get a scholarship.

The Faculty of Biology, now the Institute of Biology, is a special, different world. Here all the students know each other, if not by name, then at least by appearance. I was very lucky with my group: we were all different and unique, all with our own interests, but with a common desire to make the world a little better. I believe this desire brought us together and allowed us to win in the "Best Study Group" nomination.

The field internship trips are what I remember best: trips to the Biological Station at Lake Kuchak, to the Training and Research Station "Solnyshko" at the Krasnodar Krai, and to nurseries and garden centers of Tyumen and the Tyumen Region.

Just like my groupmates, I had doubts about working in landscaping after graduation due to the lack of demand in our profession and the weak state of green construction development in Russia at the time. However, the events that happened to me during my studies instilled love for the profession and gave me hope for possible employment in this field.

During our university years, my groupmates and me participated in student conferences, and often became winners. In 2014 I took the first place in the Flower Beds Fashion student competition at the XVIII specialized Dacha, Garden, Landscape, Small Mechanization exhibition in VDNH, Moscow. Such success gives confidence in yourself and your professional future.

In 2014, I graduated to receive my diploma as a landscape architect. For several years, I worked as a lead engineer in the Production and Technical Department of the Customer Service for the Improvement of the Kalinin Administrative District of Tyumen, and as a lead engineer in the committee for landscaping and public amenities of the Kalinin Administrative District of the Tyumen City Administration. I supervised municipal contracts for maintaining green spaces in the district, organizing floral decoration of the territory, performing acaricidal  treatment and entomological control of the territory, improving public areas, decorating the district for holidays. Despite the fact that the work was hard (sometimes I had to work 7 days a week) it was engaging, and the university background was a big help.

Today I work as a landscape architect in a landscape design company, creating comfortable and original private and public spaces.

By enrolling and graduating from UTMN with a degree in Landscape Architecture, you will become a part of a growing family of people who make the world around us better. There is a reason why people say that the student years are the best. Do not waste your time and opportunities: act, believe in your ideas and dreams, and everything will definitely work out for you!
