Valerii Falkov appointed to the post of Minister of Science and Higher Education

President Vladimir Putin decreed to appoint new Ministers. UTMN Rector, Valerii Falkov, was assigned to the position of the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation.

Valerii Falkov is a well-known leader, successful lawyer, and a talented executive with 17 years of experience working in education. Under his leadership, the University of Tyumen became one of the participants in the Competitiveness Enhancement Program 5-100, which is aimed to maximize the competitive position of a group of leading Russian universities in the global research and education market. Also, Valerii Nikolaevich is one of the founders of the West Siberian interregional scientific and educational center (SEC), which is being implemented as part of the national project "Science".

Since 2014, Falkov has been included in the reserve of managerial personnel pool under the patronage of the President of the Russian Federation. In December 2018, he joined the Presidential Council for Science and Education of Russia.

In January of 2020, Falkov joined the working group to draft constitutional amendments.

Biography

Valerii Falkov was born in Tyumen on October 18, 1978.

1995–2003: Graduated from The University of Tyumen with a degree in Law. Ph.D. in Law.  

2003–2012: Held several posts at the University of Tyumen (department head, Deputy Director of the Institute of State and Law, Deputy President for Continuing Education, Director of the Institute of Law, Economics, and Administration).

2012–2020: Rector of the University of Tyumen.

2006–2013: A Voting Member of the Tyumen Regional Election Commission.

2009–2011: Chairman of the Tyumen Regional Council of Young Academics and Professionals.

2013–2016: Member of the Tyumen City Duma; Chairman of the Standing Committee on Urban Development and Land Regulation of the Tyumen City Duma.

2016–2020: Member of the Tyumen Regional Duma; Chairman of the Committee on Social Policy of the Tyumen Regional Duma.

2015–2020: Chairman of the Tyumen Regional Council of University Presidents.

21 January 2020: President V. Putin signed an Order of Designation of Valerii Falkov to the position of the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation.
