Arabic Centre Established at UTMN
The Arab Culture Day became the first of the Centre’s events, uniting students from different countries.
The experience of the world’s leading universities shows that creating national student associations helps to support international students and make the university’s environment truly international.

One of the first steps taken by University of Tyumen to unify its foreign citizens was creating the Arabic Centre. The Centre is supervised by one of the Institute of Physics and Technology’s postgraduate students, a citizen of the Republic of Yemen, Al-Muzaiqer Mohammed Ali Yahya Ali.

"Such centres of national cultures, headed by the students themselves, allow foreign students to take part in university life fully and actively," comments Elena Yuzhakova, head of the Department of International Relations.

The UTMN Arabic Centre actively cooperates with representatives of the Arab states in the fields of culture, science, sports and social interaction. The first organizational meeting took place at the centre in October, and on 1 December, UTMN hosted an Arab Culture Day, which became a platform for students from Egypt, Iraq, Yemen, Palestine and Syria studying at different universities in Tyumen to meet up with anyone interested in the history, culture and even the cuisine of the peoples of the Arab world.

The cultural programme prepared by foreign students included reciting poems by famous poets, playing folk instruments and performing national songs. Guests of the celebration were treated to a photo exhibition acquainting them with the most striking landmarks of the Arab world, and the opportunity to taste national dishes and drinks.

"This was the first time an Arab Culture Day was held at UTMN. The great interest shown in interacting and discovering the unique life of the peoples of the Arab world, which covers 350 million citizens of 23 countries, allows us to hope that it will become an annual event. We also hope that the number of students from Arab countries in Tyumen will keep growing," said Tair Rakhmanov, Head of the International Student & Scholar Services.
