The UTMN Korean Center, together with the specialists in Oriental Studies and ambassadors of the Russian-Korea dialogue, implemented an educational project “School of Korean Studies”. The new project will introduce local youth to the language, culture, history and policies of the countries of the Korean peninsula.

Valery Falkov, UTMN Rector, Igor Samkaev, Honorary Consul of the Republic of Korea in the Tyumen Region, and Alexey Ten, Chairman of the Korean diaspora, attended the opening. They wished the organizers further development of the Korean Center’s projects and the improvement of the Russian-Korea relations at the regional level.

Mr. Han Man Kyun, representative of the Korean engineering company, was a special guest of the evening. “As a representative of my country, I am very glad to see that our language and culture are of interest to young people from all over the world,” said Mr. Han.

Andrei Tolstikov, Vice-Rector for Research and International Affairs, noted that the UTMN Korean Center aims to work not only with school and university students but also with the Korean consulates. “I believe it is a step in the right direction for our university. Hopefully, the cooperation of UTMN and the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Korea will bear fruit,” said Vice-Rector.

The School of Korean Studies has already given lessons on Hangul, the Korean alphabet, and its peculiarities. Olga Kim, Korean language teacher, told students about an unusual method to quickly memorize Korean letters using the picture association technique.

The School’s program includes eight lessons on the characteristics of the modern Korean language, ethnic customs and traditions of the country as well as its history.
