21-year-old Denis Spitsov is one of the youngest skiers in the Russian team. It is his first season in the cross-country World Cup competition, and he is already in fourth place among skiers aged 23 or under. Denis has several silver medals from national competitions and the 2017 Winter Military World Games held in Sochi. He also has bronze, silver and gold medals from youth and junior world competitions.

Denis’ first performance at the Olympics will be in the skiathlon race, held on 11 February. It is one of the most interesting and difficult disciplines in cross-country skiing: the first 15km stage is done in the classic technique before the participants change into skating skis and continue the second half of the race in the free technique.

Denis Spitsov received a confidence-boost just before such an important competition for his sporting career when, on 2 February, he won gold in skiathlon among young sportsmen up to 23 years old at the world championships. This on top of coming second in the 15km race in the classic technique two days before that.

We wish Denis good luck and heartily support him and his teammates!
