Russian Academy of Sciences Researcher Appointed Director of New UTMN Institute

Education 26 September 2017

Igor Chubarov, Russian philosopher, PhD and senior researcher from the Russian Academy of Sciences, has been appointed Director of UTMN Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities.

Igor Chubarov is author of research into the history of Russian philosophy, media studies, modern and early Soviet proletarian art. He has previously worked at the Russian State University for the Humanities and the MSU Center for Modern Philosophy and Social Studies, and is associate editor of the Logos journal.

“The fact that a philosopher will head the Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities creates opportunities for growth not only for Philology and History programmes but also for the Philosophy department. It will play a crucial part in the development of the University in general,” believes UTMN professor Alexandr Emanov.

“Studying the Humanities not only develops skills and reproduces knowledge - it also changes a person,” commented Chubarov. “Other sciences are not capable of that”.

The new Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities was established on 1 October 2017 by merging the Institute of Philology and Journalism and the Institute of History and Political Sciences.
