UTMN is strengthening its positions in media space

Tyumen state university is now in top-20 of Russian universities by the degree of representation in mass media by “Medialogiya”.

Rating for Media activity of the university are rated by special metrics. Nowadays there are multiple ratings, ratings from The Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, service “Medialogiya” and Brand Analytics are highly acclaimed by the professionals. UTMN shows great results in all of them.

According to the rating from The Ministry of Science and Higher Education UTMN has one of the best websites, it became top-10 in autumn of 2024. In 2024, sections of the site for foreign audience were updated. The pages for applicants are now translated into seven languages – English, Spanish, French, German, Arabic, Chinese and Vietnamese. According to The Russian International Affairs Council out of all universities in the country, UTMN’s Russian version of the website is in sixth place and the English version is in eighth.

The site has daily updates on life inside the university and key research that is being conducted.

High mediaresults are connected to the universities representation in mass media. By the end of 2024 UTMN was placed in 20th place in “Medialogiya” rating which is nine positions higher than before.

Last year readers were most interested in materials about the new university building, archaeological works, new approaches to education including new practices, adoption of AI, catalyst for fuel and energy complex, fuel additives for aviation and mixtures for fire extinguishers.

UTMN is in the top 20 of universities according to Brand Analytics agency in terms of representation in popular science media. Articales about the researches are published in Naked Science, in thematic parts of RIA Novosti, TASS, Rossiyskaya Gazeta and others. Iconic publications of federal media outlets become the basis for rewriting by dozens of other publications and media platforms.

“Media activity of the university is not itself a goal, for us the place in the rating is not important, what is important is that a broader audience of professionals and experts, representatives from the government, future applicants and citizens know about our activities, priorities and movement forward. High positions in previous year were a reflection of projects of implementing AI, individualization of education, construction and commissioning of the new university building, patriotic work” – Ivan Romanchuk rector of UTMN commented.

During the 2024 one of the main points of agenda for the university were topics of AI and its new role in higher education. In June, the Rutube channel of UTMN published videos from forum “AI in higher education. Pedagogical challenges and perspectives from Russian universities”, collective watch time of the channel over 13 thousand hours.

Social media audiences are also expanding exponentially. The amount of subscribers in the Russian social media “Odnoklassniki” has doubled and tripled on “Telegram” and “Zen”. In august thanks to the interest of the admitted students university community in “VKontakte” was twentieth rating of university media activity, channel on “Zen” was fifth according to The Ministry of Science and Higher Education.

Information platforms are attracting more and more users who are interested in learning about the university’s development. An example could be that in January of 2024 university community on Odnoklassniki was in the 109th place compared to similar university communities in Russia, in October it was in 16th place.

2. Students were actively sharing their excitement on the eve firstyears debut.

3. Prishvin's titmouse caused a stir in the university's Odnoklassniki community.

4. An article about the age of burials located beyond the Arctic Circle attracted the most subscribers to the Tyumen State University channel on Zen.

It allowed us to make a universal mark for content that is in accordance to universities internal policy as well as The Ministry of Science and Higher Education” - Said the head of the Department of strategic communications at UTMN Svetlana Temnikova.
